Introduction to Ikebana at CSU OsherLifeLongLearning Institute
Introduction to Ikebana:
The Japanese Art of Flower Arranging
#OSHR 1385 106 & 107
Course Overview: Many of us bemoan the attention and energy
given to “negative” issues and events in our world. This course
will shift you to the positive as we stop and smell the flowers!
Join us as we explore beginning techniques and design principles
of Ikebana, a Japanese tradition from the 6th century. Ikebana
is a contemplative art using the beauty and form of flowers and
greenery as the medium. Practitioners cultivate awareness and
attention to balance, harmony, and space through the creative
world of Ikebana. These principles can then be incorporated into
everyday life.
Participants will be asked to bring their own flowers and
greenery to the second session.
Instructor: Sharon Stuart, Master Teacher Sogetsu School, has
studied Ikebana for 15 years. She received her teaching diploma
in 1999 and traveled to Japan and elsewhere for additional
master classes. Sharon participates in Ikebana exhibits and
demonstrations held in Denver.
